Aertemeishibulak Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Eastern Tarim Basin. The type section is located on the 898 m Highland, southeast of Aertemeishibulak, south of Bosten (Bagrax) Lake and Xinggir in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was named by No 13 Geological Team of Xinjiang in 1957 and was published by the Compiling Group of Xinjiang Regional Stratigraphical Scale (1980).
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone. It is mainly characterized by interbedded purplish-red to purple thick-bedded sandy conglomerate, pebble-bearing sandstone and coarse-grained sandstone, with intercalations of layered arkosic quartzose sandstone at the lower part; the purple sandstone often contains calcareous concretions. The thickness is 1201-1299 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Shugouzi Fm of the middle Devonian [which was not included in English version of Lexicon]
Upper contact
Unknown: It has an obscure contact with the overlying Lower Carboniferous.
